Thirteen farmers have successfully graduated from the Glen Valley Horticulture Incubator Programme, an initiative by the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) designed to empower individuals in the horticulture sector. The programme aims to equip both prospective and experienced farmers with the skills needed to establish sustainable, profitable, and competitive horticultural businesses.

Since its launch in 2011, the programme has trained a total of 275 farmers. LEA Acting CEO, Godfrey Molefe, highlighted the initiative’s significant contribution to Botswana’s agricultural sector. “At least 40% of these graduates are actively contributing to the local economy through their involvement in the production and supply of horticulture commodities in different parts of the country,” he stated.

The Glen Valley Horticulture Incubator Programme focuses on practical training, business development, and sustainable farming practices, helping farmers increase productivity and improve the quality of their produce. By fostering such initiatives, LEA is playing a critical role in boosting food security, reducing imports, and creating job opportunities in Botswana’s agricultural sector.

Graduates from the programme are now better positioned to tackle challenges in the industry and make a lasting impact on Botswana’s economy. This milestone reflects LEA’s ongoing commitment to supporting small businesses and promoting innovation in agriculture.

As Botswana continues to grow its horticultural capabilities, initiatives like this one remain vital in shaping a more resilient and self-reliant agricultural landscape.
