In a prestigious ceremony held yesterday at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC), Botswana celebrated the remarkable achievements of four of its most distinguished figures by awarding them electric vehicles and personalized license plates. This gesture recognizes their outstanding contributions to the nation’s success on both the local and global stages.
The honorees were:
• 🏆 Ross Branch – 2024 Rally Raid World Champion
• 👑 Anicia Gaothusi – Miss Botswana
• 🌍 Lesego Chombo – Miss World Africa
• 🥇 Letsile Tebogo – Olympic Gold Medalist
These national icons have brought immense pride to Botswana through their excellence in their respective fields. As part of this prestigious recognition, they were each granted electric vehicles for their personal use for a year, as part of a trial initiative to promote electric vehicles in Botswana. The initiative will gather valuable performance data, assess public acceptance, and support innovation in the sustainable transportation sector.
In addition to the electric vehicles, each honoree received a customized license plate, further personalizing their recognition. These icons will also serve as ambassadors for road safety, promoting responsible driving and encouraging safe road behavior in their communities.
In a heartwarming display of national pride, Botswana’s Olympic team was also awarded customized registration numbers of their choice. This was a special tribute to commemorate their collective achievements, particularly Letsile Tebogo’s historic gold medal win at the Olympics, which put Botswana in the global spotlight.
His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi personally handed over the vehicles to the recipients, expressing his deep admiration and gratitude for their hard work and dedication in uplifting the nation’s reputation. He emphasized that their contributions were not only in sports and beauty but also in promoting Botswana as a leader in talent, innovation, and excellence. President Masisi also thanked the ministries involved in organizing the event and ensuring its success.
The event was attended by several high-ranking dignitaries, including Hon. Tumiso Rakgare, Hon. Thulaganyo Segokgo, and Hon. Eric Molale, who all shared their congratulations and support for the honorees.
This initiative represents Botswana’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence across all sectors. It reflects the country’s efforts to promote electric mobility as part of a broader strategy to create a cleaner, greener future while also acknowledging the exceptional achievements of its citizens.
Through this thoughtful and impactful gesture, Botswana not only celebrates its icons but also sets a benchmark for innovation and national pride that will inspire future generations to excel and contribute to the nation’s growth and success.
