In a significant move to strengthen Botswana’s agricultural sector, the Batswana Tractors Association visited the Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture (MoLA), Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, this morning to introduce the association and engage on key issues related to their mandate. The visit aimed to foster collaboration between the association and the ministry, with a focus on enhancing support for local farmers.

The Batswana Tractors Association plays a vital role in guiding and supporting tractor owners across the country, particularly during the ploughing season. Their mission is to assist farmers with tilling and cultivation, ensuring efficient agricultural practices during planting time. Through their work, they provide vital support to ensure that farmers across various regions can access the equipment and guidance necessary for successful crop production.

During the meeting, Assistant Minister Dr. Edwin Dikoloti commended the association for its commitment to supporting Batswana farmers and encouraged them to continue organizing and reaching out to farming communities in all corners of the country. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening Botswana’s agricultural capacity, particularly for small-scale farmers who may be located in remote areas.

Dr. Dikoloti also urged the association to take their involvement to the next level by opening factories and shops within Botswana that sell tractors and related implements. He explained that local production and sales of agricultural machinery would not only make these vital tools more accessible to farmers but also contribute significantly to the country’s employment rate. By encouraging local manufacturing and retail, the association can help reduce reliance on foreign imports while boosting the national economy.

This collaboration represents a positive step forward in strengthening Botswana’s agricultural value chain, promoting job creation, and improving food security through better access to farming resources.
