Cham Washing Powder Expands Beyond Borders with BITC Support. United Chem (Pty) Ltd, the manufacturer of Cham Washing Powder, is making significant strides in both the local and export markets, thanks to strategic support from the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC).

Since registering with BITC in June 2022, the company has transformed from a local startup into a growing national brand. Under the leadership of Managing Director Solomon Rapelang Moyo, Cham Washing Powder has gained traction in major retail outlets across Botswana, with its presence now extending to international markets.

Moyo credits trade fairs and expos for the brand’s expansion, particularly in Selebi Phikwe and surrounding areas. “We managed to promote the brand, increase sales, and secure supply deals with shops in the region,” he explained. The company has also secured listings in major retail chains, including Trans Cash and Carry and Food Lovers, further strengthening its market presence.

In addition to local growth, Cham Washing Powder has now entered the export market. “On October 26, 2024, we successfully made our first export to South Africa, valued at P250,000,” Moyo revealed. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s expansion plans.

BITC has played a crucial role in facilitating this growth, not only by providing exposure through initiatives such as Metlhala Ya Khumo events and the Kusi Ideas Festival but also by offering direct business development support. As part of its commitment to strengthening local enterprises, BITC has sponsored an expert from the SES (Senior Experten Service) to train and upskill United Chem’s workforce. The training, scheduled from January 14 to February 13, 2025, aims to enhance production efficiency and business operations.

Moyo expressed gratitude for BITC’s continued support, emphasizing the company’s commitment to economic diversification and job creation in Botswana. “We appreciate the assistance we’ve received, and we will continue working towards expanding our footprint, both locally and internationally, for the benefit of our company and the country,” he said.

With its growing market presence and international expansion, Cham Washing Powder is poised to become a formidable player in the detergent industry, demonstrating the potential of Botswana’s local manufacturing sector.
