Vehicle Ownership Transfers: What You Need to Know. The Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) has reminded vehicle owners of the legal requirement to transfer or change ownership within seven days of the transaction. The announcement aims to ensure compliance and streamline the registration process for both sellers and buyers.
According to DRTS, the registered owner must immediately hand over the vehicle’s registration book to the new owner. The new owner is then required to submit the necessary documents to a DRTS office to complete the transfer.
The required documents include:
- The original registration book, completed and signed by both parties
- Certified copies of identification (Omang) for both the current and new owner
- A transfer of ownership fee of P190.00A P140.00 fee for a duplicate registration book, if needed
Failure to complete the transfer within the stipulated timeframe may lead to complications, including fines or legal issues for both parties.
To enhance convenience, DRTS encourages the use of its online service, accessible via *174# on Mascom and BeMobile networks, for other vehicle-related services. This initiative aligns with efforts to improve efficiency and reduce in-person visits to government offices.
