Air Botswana Expands Into Namibia With New Gaborone-Windhoek Route. Air Botswana is confident about its regional expansion, particularly in Namibia, after launching flights between Gaborone and Windhoek in November 2024. Since the route’s introduction, the airline has already transported over 600 passengers, a milestone CEO Lulu Rasebotsa considers a strong start.

Rasebotsa emphasized that Botswana and Namibia share close economic and social ties, making the new route a natural fit. With many families and businesses operating across both countries, demand for flights is expected to remain steady.

Beyond passenger travel, Air Botswana sees significant potential in cargo transportation. The airline aims to boost trade by facilitating the movement of goods between Namibia and Botswana. “Cargo is a major focus for us, and we see strong opportunities in both imports and exports,” Rasebotsa explained.

Tourism is another key factor driving Air Botswana’s interest in Namibia. The country attracts many international visitors, especially from Germany, due to historical connections. By partnering with airlines that fly from Germany and other European countries, Air Botswana hopes to bring more tourists into Botswana’s famous destinations, including the Okavango Delta

Support from Namibian aviation authorities has helped Air Botswana integrate smoothly into the market. The airline has received assistance in obtaining operational permits and has partnered with Namibia’s tourism sector to promote the route.

Looking forward, Air Botswana aims to strengthen its role in regional connectivity by leveraging its location within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). With a focus on passengers, cargo, and tourism, Air Botswana sees Namibia as a crucial step in its long-term growth strategy.
