Assistant Minister Mophuting Highlights Women’s Role at Engineering Forum. The Assistant Minister for State President, Hon. Maiplelo B. Mophuting, officiated at this year’s Women in Engineering Forum, emphasizing the importance of empowering women and youth in Botswana’s engineering sector.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Mophuting praised the work of Women in Engineering Botswana (WiEB), noting its role in advancing opportunities for women to contribute to the country’s development through engineering. She stated that WiEB is helping to unlock potential and create mentorship opportunities that place women and youth at the forefront of shaping Botswana’s engineering landscape.
Hon. Mophuting reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen skills development, leadership training, and capacity building in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). She highlighted national targets aiming for 30% representation of women in engineering and related fields by 2030, reflecting an ongoing focus on inclusion and diversity within the sector.
The forum brought together stakeholders from government, academia, and industry to discuss strategies for increasing female participation in engineering, addressing barriers to entry, and promoting mentorship programmes.
WiEB continues to play a central role in advocating for gender balance in engineering, creating platforms for knowledge sharing, and supporting career development for women professionals across Botswana.
