BDC and University of Botswana Partner to Drive Economic Growth. The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and the University of Botswana (UB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in innovation, research, and economic development. The partnership is designed to support Botswana’s Vision 2036, which aims to transition the nation into a high-income, knowledge-based economy.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, BDC Managing Director Cross Kgosidiile emphasized the need for a mindset shift to unlock Botswana’s economic potential. “This requires a deliberate shift in thinking, a willingness to embrace change, and a readiness to challenge conventional wisdom,” said Kgosidiile. “Institutions like the University of Botswana play a fundamental role as engines of innovation, producing cutting-edge research and nurturing the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.”
The MOU will facilitate collaboration in several key areas, including the commercialization of UB’s research and development projects, the identification of promising ventures, and the support of startups and entrepreneurs. BDC will provide funding, training, mentorship, and business development support to UB’s affiliates, helping them grow into sustainable enterprises.
UB Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, noting that it would help commercialize UB’s research, connect innovators with funding opportunities, and attract both local and international investors.By combining UB’s research expertise with BDC’s investment capabilities, the collaboration aims to drive economic diversification and competitiveness, ensuring Botswana remains at the forefront of innovation.
