As Cybersecurity Awareness Month came to a close, the Ministry of Communications and Innovation, in collaboration with the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA), hosted a prestigious awards ceremony to honor participants of the Cybersecurity Awareness Month Schools Debate. Held on December 3, 2024, the event recognized the exceptional efforts of students from four of Botswana’s leading senior secondary schools: Ledumang, Naledi, St. Joseph’s, and Gaborone Senior Secondary Schools.
A Platform for Young Cybersecurity Advocates
The schools debate, a cornerstone of Botswana’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities, provided students with a platform to explore and discuss pressing cybersecurity issues affecting individuals, communities, and organizations. The initiative encouraged critical thinking, public speaking, and collaboration among young leaders, empowering them to advocate for safer digital practices in an increasingly connected world.
Honoring Excellence and Innovation
The awards ceremony was graced by Honourable Shawn Ntlhaile, the Assistant Minister of Communications and Innovation, who delivered an inspiring keynote address before presenting the prizes to the debate participants. In his speech, Honourable Ntlhaile emphasized the importance of equipping young people with knowledge and skills to tackle cybersecurity challenges.
As the event concluded, BOCRA reiterated its commitment to fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness in Botswana. Through collaborative efforts with educational institutions, government bodies, and the private sector, BOCRA continues to lead the charge in ensuring a safe and secure digital environment for all.
A Bright Future Ahead
The Cybersecurity Awareness Month Schools Debate awards ceremony was not just a wrap-up of a successful campaign—it was a celebration of the bright future that lies ahead for Botswana. With young leaders taking the stage to champion cybersecurity, the nation is poised to navigate the challenges of the digital age with confidence and resilience.
