Botswana Baker’s Association Engages with Trade Ministry on Industry Concerns. The Botswana Baker’s Association (BBA) paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship (MTE) today, where Assistant Minister Honourable Baratiwa Mathoothe reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting citizen participation in economic development.
During the engagement at the Ministry’s headquarters, Honourable Mathoothe assured the association that the government is focused on creating a fair business environment for local entrepreneurs. He emphasized that the Ministry opposes any form of exploitation or unfair treatment of local business owners in the baking sector.
A key issue raised in the discussion was the challenge of fronting, where citizens are used as proxies by foreign entities to operate businesses meant for Batswana. The Assistant Minister warned that such practices would not be tolerated, stating that investigations would be conducted into any reported cases.
Honourable Mathoothe also stressed the importance of continuous engagement between the government and industry stakeholders. He noted that collaboration with the baking sector is essential to ensuring that their perspectives are considered in policy-making and legislative processes.
Representing the Botswana Baker’s Association, Ms. Futhi Morupisi expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s openness to dialogue. She welcomed the government’s commitment to addressing industry concerns and ensuring that local bakers are protected and supported for sustainable growth.
The meeting highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the baking industry by promoting fair business practices and citizen-driven entrepreneurship.
