Botswana Diaspora Hub: Bridging Global Talent for National Growth. Renowned Motswana tech entrepreneur and digital innovation leader, Boi Kgathi Rasmussen, has introduced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at connecting Batswana living abroad. The newly launched Botswana Diaspora Hub is designed to foster personal and professional growth while promoting sustainable development in Botswana.
Rasmussen, best known for founding Yamee/MyFoodness—an eCommerce platform that expanded beyond Botswana to Tanzania and South Africa—has been recognized as one of Africa’s Top 50 Digital Champions and a Seedstars honoree. In addition to her entrepreneurial success, she plays a key role in Women in AI in Europe, where she focuses on upskilling women and underrepresented groups in artificial intelligence and data science.
Highlighting the importance of engaging the diaspora, Rasmussen noted that approximately 87,000 Batswana live abroad, contributing $58 million annually to Botswana’s GDP through remittances. The Botswana Diaspora Hub seeks to harness this economic potential by enabling professionals to share job opportunities, expand networks, and secure better-paying positions, ultimately increasing financial contributions to their families and communities back home.
Beyond employment, the platform encourages mentorship by allowing members to connect with experts within the diaspora for career guidance and personal development. Additionally, it provides learning resources, including free courses and workshops, to enhance professional skills and improve employability.
A key feature of the Botswana Diaspora Hub is its role in economic development discussions, where members can collaborate on initiatives aimed at driving long-term progress in Botswana. It also plans to establish an Impact Investment Fund to support female- and youth-led businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
