Botswana Explores TVET and STEAM Education for Youth Empowerment and Economic Growth. The Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics 2025 hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion at Fairground Holdings, focusing on the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) in shaping Botswana’s economic future.

Under the theme “Exploring TVET and STEAM Education to Unlock Opportunities for Skills Development, Job Creation, and Economic Diversification for Youth in Botswana,” the discussion brought together key policymakers, educators, and industry leaders. Honourable Ramaotwana Nelson Ramaotwana, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the need to prioritize TVET and STEAM as drivers of economic transformation.

Panelists examined the opportunities these educational sectors present for youth employment, innovation, and industrial development. Discussions also tackled challenges such as limited funding, outdated perceptions about technical education, and the gap between academic training and industry needs. They called for greater investment in modern training facilities, enhanced public-private collaborations, and curriculum reforms that reflect Botswana’s evolving economy.

The session concluded with a collective commitment to strengthening TVET and STEAM education as a pathway to economic diversification. Stakeholders agreed on the importance of equipping Botswana’s youth with practical, industry-relevant skills that align with national development goals.
