Botswana Extends Second Transitional National Development Plan to Align with New Priorities. The Government of Botswana has officially extended the formulation period for the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12) to November 1, 2025. This was announced today by Honourable Moeti Mohwasa, Minister for State President, during a press briefing in Gaborone.
The extension affects the ongoing Second Transitional National Development Plan, allowing more time for broader consultations and alignment of NDP 12 with the current administration’s priorities and the evolving aspirations of Batswana. Minister Mohwasa noted that the previous draft did not fully reflect the manifesto of the ruling party, prompting the need for additional revisions.
He further called for a unified national effort, stressing the importance of setting aside personal interests in favor of a collective, long-term vision for Botswana’s sustainable growth. According to the Minister, future strategies should focus on inclusive development, improved productivity, and realistic approaches to transforming the economy.
The extended timeline will be used to refine policy priorities, engage key stakeholders, and ensure that the final plan is rooted in practicality and broad consensus. The revised NDP 12 is expected to guide national planning and development over the coming years, covering critical sectors such as education, infrastructure, health, and industry.
