Botswana Stock Exchange Rings the Bell for Gender Equality on International Women’s Day 2025. The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) marked International Women’s Day 2025 with a symbolic Opening Bell Ceremony under the theme “Ring the Bell for ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” The event, held at the BSE offices, brought together business leaders, policymakers, and industry professionals to emphasize the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

BSE Board Member Ms. Boipelo Matenge opened the ceremony with a speech highlighting gender equality as an economic necessity. She emphasized that ensuring women’s equal access to opportunities fosters innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development.

The keynote address was delivered by Kgosikgolo Ya Gamalete, Kgosi Mosadi Seboko, who spoke about breaking barriers in leadership and economic spaces. She stressed that systemic challenges, rather than a lack of capability, often hinder women’s representation in politics, corporate boardrooms, and policy-making roles. She called for deliberate action to promote gender inclusivity through mentorship programs, leadership training, and supportive policies.

A panel discussion followed, themed “Breaking Barriers: Women and Girls Shaping the Future,” moderated by BSE Head of Market Development Ms. Thapelo Moribame. The discussion explored progress in gender equality, existing challenges, and the role of women in shaping a more inclusive future.The event concluded with a Bell Ringing Ceremony led by Kgosi Mosadi Seboko, alongside panelists, BSE and CSDB Board Members, and BSE female staff, symbolizing BSE’s commitment to inclusivity in the financial sector.
