Botswana Strengthens Cannabis and Hemp Policy Development. Botswana is advancing efforts to establish a structured regulatory framework for the cultivation, production, and distribution of cannabis and industrial hemp. Speaking at the Eastern & Southern Africa Commission on Drugs, President Advocate Duma Boko emphasized the significance of these discussions, particularly as the country refines its policy approach.
The conference, held in Gaborone, focused on the Cannabis Policy Draft Agenda under the theme: “Supporting the Development of Policy and Regulatory Framework for the Implementation of Cannabis for Medical and Scientific Purposes in Eastern and Southern Africa.” Experts from across the region gathered to share insights and strategies on regulatory best practices.
President Boko acknowledged the complexities surrounding cannabis regulation and reiterated his administration’s commitment to making informed policy decisions. “This meeting comes at a crucial time for Botswana. We are working to design a comprehensive and structured regulatory framework that will govern the cannabis and hemp industry. Through expert consultations and rigorous debate, we aim to create policies that are well-informed and strategic,” he stated.
