Business Botswana Launches Private Sector Disaster Fund to Strengthen Crisis Response. Business Botswana has introduced the Private Sector Disaster Response Fund (PSDRF), an initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to respond swiftly to natural disasters and emergencies. This private sector-led fund seeks to provide immediate financial assistance during crises, bridging the gap when government aid is delayed or insufficient.

The PSDRF is designed to empower businesses and communities with the necessary resources to recover quickly from disasters, ensuring minimal disruption to livelihoods and economic activities. Recognizing the critical role of private sector involvement in disaster management, Business Botswana is calling on its members and stakeholders to contribute to the fund.

To maintain transparency and accountability, the fund will be managed by an independent board, which will oversee the assessment and allocation of resources. Business Botswana will supervise overall operations while collaborating with the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) to coordinate response efforts efficiently.

Beyond immediate disaster relief, the PSDRF also aims to strengthen early warning systems and support community preparedness initiatives. This proactive approach will help mitigate the impact of future disasters, reducing economic and social losses.

Business Botswana has emphasized the importance of collective action in building a resilient disaster response framework. By mobilizing private sector resources, the PSDRF seeks to create a more agile and efficient system to address emergencies and safeguard communities.
