The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) has announced a temporary halt in the disbursement of Chema-Chema funds, pending the receipt of funding from the government.

This development was confirmed by the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tiroeaone Ntsima, in response to a parliamentary inquiry from Maun East Member of Parliament, Goretetse Kekgonegile. The MP had sought an update on the national rollout of the Chema-Chema initiative.

According to Ntsima, the pause affects all beneficiaries who received approval letters as of November 21, 2024. The minister reassured stakeholders that disbursements would resume promptly once the government provides the necessary funding.

Despite the temporary halt in disbursements, CEDA continues to accept applications for Chema-Chema funding. Aspiring entrepreneurs can submit their applications through the agency’s online platform or at its nationwide network of branches and satellite offices.

Additionally, the Chema-Chema program is currently under review, with anticipated changes expected to be communicated before the end of the financial year.

Chema-Chema, a popular initiative aimed at empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs, remains a cornerstone of CEDA’s mission to drive economic growth and job creation. The temporary pause is expected to be a short-term challenge as the program adapts to improve its efficiency and effectiveness.

Beneficiaries and applicants are encouraged to stay informed through official updates and remain patient during this transitional period.
