CIPA Hosts Intellectual Property Workshop to Empower Researchers and Innovators. The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA), in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), has launched a specialized training seminar aimed at strengthening patent knowledge among researchers and innovators.
The workshop seeks to build local capacity in intellectual property (IP), equipping participants with the necessary skills to navigate the patenting process and leverage IP for economic growth. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to foster innovation and support Botswana’s transition into a knowledge-based economy.
Delivering the keynote address, Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Hon. B. Mathoothe, emphasized the critical role of intellectual property in economic diversification. He highlighted how strengthening IP awareness can drive innovation, attract investment, and position Botswana as a competitive player in the global market.
Participants will gain insights into the fundamentals of patents, strategies for effective IP management, and best practices from international experts. The collaboration with WIPO and KIPO is expected to provide valuable expertise, reinforcing Botswana’s commitment to harnessing intellectual property for economic transformation.
CIPA’s initiative reflects a broader push for strengthening IP protection in Africa, aligning with regional and global efforts to promote innovation-led development. As Botswana continues to invest in research and technology, such workshops play a crucial role in empowering local inventors and entrepreneurs to compete on the world stage.
