Cape Town is set to become the epicentre of the global breaking scene as it hosts the highly anticipated FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters for the first time on African soil. Set to be held at the V&A Waterfront on 18 January 2025, this event will bring together the best of the best in breaking, promising to be a landmark celebration of both local and international talent.

FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters is a global breaking competition series established in 2014. It has been responsible for some of the most jaw-dropping breaking events across the globe, including in São Paulo, Paris, the Netherlands, New York and Tokyo.

The Cape Town leg offers free entrance to attendees and breaking battles open to all ages, with open categories for Solo Men, Solo Women and Crews, allowing local breakers from diverse backgrounds to display their creativity and skill on the world stage. Adding to the buzz, Olympic gold medallist and breaking legend, Phil Wizard, is set to take the Cape Town stage, showcasing his signature breathtaking moves, innovation and passion. For fans and aspiring breakers, it is the chance to see a true icon of the sport live in action.

With over 600 dancers taking part in the most recent São Paulo event, the stakes for FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters Cape Town are especially high, as this is final event before the World Finals in Tokyo in March 2025. The Mother City competition will feature the world’s top b-boys and b-girls competing for top honours, with the winners of the Solo Women and Solo Men battles earning a trip to Tokyo to compete in the World Final. This anticipation makes the event a defining moment for breaking culture across Africa and beyond.

In addition to the solo battles, The FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters will also host a crew battle, with each crew consisting of five dancers. The rules for crews are the same as for the solo battles but the dynamics are different. Each round of a crew battle offers flexibility for crews to decide their approach. They can send in one dancer, or they might opt for a group routine, performed by two or more dancers. Overall, crew battles provide an opportunity for dance crews to demonstrate their teamwork, creativity and unity on stage.

The competitions will be judged by an elite international panel, led by Renegade (UK) and Storm (GER), co-creators of the Trivium Judging System – the foundation for judging used at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This advanced digital platform allows judges to score dancers in real-time based on three key criteria: physical, interpretative and artistic quality. Joining Renegade and Storm are Nemesis (USA) and South African icons Genetics and b-girl Vee. Their role on the panel highlights South Africa’s influence in the breaking community and offers an inspiring journey for emerging African breakers.

Instax South Africa will be running a photobooth activation where attendees can get their picture taken at this iconic event for free via the Instax Biz App. There will also be a showcase of Instax’s range of instant cameras and printers, with the winners of each category walking away with a brand-new flagship Instax Mini Evo instant camera.

FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters invites everyone to come and experience the electrifying energy of world-class breaking. From first-time competitors to seasoned champions, this event promises a unique experience filled with the energy, artistry and athleticism that define the spirit of breaking culture.
