Lesego Chombo Highlights AWOME Program at UN Women’s Commission. Lesego Chombo, Chairperson of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (STC on GEWE), spoke at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women – Beijing+30.

On Day 1 of the event, Chombo participated in the EntreprenHer side event, alongside Namibia, South Africa, and De Beers Group. The event showcased the African Women Entrepreneurs’ Mentorship and Empowerment (AWOME) program, a key initiative that has supported female entrepreneurs in Botswana.

The AWOME program has been instrumental in providing resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities for women in Botswana, helping them overcome barriers and grow their businesses. The session highlighted how initiatives like AWOME contribute to economic empowerment and gender equality in Africa.

In addition, Chombo spoke at the High-Level Dialogue on the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women, offering insights on the African Union’s efforts to combat violence and promote women’s rights across the continent.
