Liquid Intelligent Technologies Expands Fibre Network, Boosting Connectivity Across Botswana. Liquid Intelligent Technologies, part of Cassava Technologies, has completed a major extension of its fibre network, significantly improving connectivity between Botswana and the rest of the African continent.
The new 730-kilometre fibre link runs from Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana, connecting key towns such as Francistown, Mahalapye, and Palapye. This development marks the first direct fibre connection from northern Botswana along the A1 road.
According to Odirile Tamajobe, Managing Director of Liquid Botswana, the extension not only strengthens Botswana’s economic hubs but also enhances high-speed internet access for both urban and rural communities along the route. This move increases the region’s network capacity, providing more resilience and additional multi-terabit bandwidth.
The fibre extension also links Botswana’s network to neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan, creating a cross-border digital infrastructure. This expansion reflects Liquid’s continued investment in Botswana’s digital transformation and reinforces its leadership in the African technology space.
Furthermore, the project supports local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), helping them extend services to more customers and boosting regional employment opportunities. As Botswana pushes toward becoming a digitally connected, economically empowered nation, this extension plays a crucial role in the country’s national digital strategy.
