Lucara Diamond Corp Strengthens Karowe Mine with Leadership Change and Record-Breaking Diamond Discovery. Lucara Diamond Corp has recently undertaken significant developments at its flagship Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana, marked by a leadership transition and the unearthing of one of the largest diamonds in history.

In August 2023, Lucara announced the appointment of William Lamb as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Eira Thomas. Mr. Lamb brings over 30 years of mining industry leadership and mine development experience to his role.

Under Mr. Lamb’s leadership, the Karowe Mine achieved a historic milestone with the recovery of a 2,492-carat diamond in 2024. This remarkable gem stands as the largest diamond found in over a century and the second-largest ever discovered globally, following the 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond unearthed in 1905.

The discovery of this extraordinary diamond has not only elevated Lucara’s profile but also reinforced Botswana’s status as a premier source of high-quality diamonds. The Karowe Mine, renowned for producing large, high-quality Type IIA diamonds, continues to contribute significantly to the local economy through job creation and community development initiatives.

With the combination of experienced leadership and groundbreaking discoveries, Lucara Diamond Corp is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of success. The company’s ongoing investments in the Karowe Mine underscore its commitment to sustainable growth and value creation for stakeholders.

These developments highlight Lucara’s pivotal role in the global diamond industry and its dedication to fostering economic prosperity within Botswana.
