President Boko to Attend Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania. President Duma Gideon Boko will represent Botswana at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, scheduled for 27–28 January 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This high-level event, co-hosted by the Tanzanian government, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group, will convene African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development organizations, and civil society representatives to address the critical issue of energy access on the continent.
The Summit’s ambitious goal is to expand energy access and provide electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030. Discussions will focus on strategies to deliver affordable and sustainable energy solutions that drive economic growth and improve living standards across Africa.
For Botswana, this Summit represents an important opportunity to engage in collective efforts to transform the energy sector. The meeting’s outcomes, including the anticipated signing of the Dar es Salaam Declaration, are expected to urge African governments to prioritize renewable energy, attract private investment, and advance necessary energy sector reforms.
President Boko will be joined by Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Kenewendo, alongside senior government officials. Their participation highlights Botswana’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the continent’s shared vision of energy inclusivity and economic progress.
The event also provides a platform for Botswana to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders and advocate for investment in renewable energy projects within the country. As Africa increasingly embraces green energy transitions, Botswana’s active involvement positions it to benefit from the opportunities and innovations arising from the Summit.
The President and his delegation are expected to return to Gaborone on 28 January 2025, following the conclusion of the Summit. This engagement underscores Botswana’s dedication to addressing energy challenges and supporting initiatives that advance the well-being of its citizens and the broader African community.
