His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, on December 13, 2024, for a pivotal working visit to the SADC Secretariat.

During his visit, H.E. Mnangagwa will join President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana to officially receive the SADC Secretariat Headquarters Building on behalf of the SADC Heads of State and Government. This building has been established under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) involving SADC, Bongwe Investments (Pty) Ltd, and the Government of Botswana as the guarantor.

In addition to the handover ceremony, the two leaders will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the SADC Standby Force Regional Logistics Depot (RLD) in Rasesa Village, Kgatleng District, approximately 40 km from Gaborone. The RLD will serve as a crucial storage facility for materials, equipment, and supplies needed for peace support and humanitarian missions undertaken by the SADC Standby Force.

As SADC Chairperson, President Mnangagwa oversees the region’s highest governance structure, providing strategic policy direction and ensuring effective control over the organization’s functions. This visit underscores the Chairperson’s commitment to advancing SADC’s goals of peace, stability, and regional integration.
