SADC Sustainable Conference to Tackle Regional Energy Security in Gaborone. Gaborone is set to host the SADC Sustainable Week from February 24-28, 2025, in a collaborative effort between the Government of Botswana and the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE). The conference will focus on advancing sustainable energy solutions to enhance energy security across the Southern African region.

Speaking at a media briefing, Botswana’s Minister for Minerals and Energy, Honourable Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, emphasized the significance of the event as a platform for regional action. She described it as a crucial step toward promoting sustainable energy production and resilience within SADC member states.

Under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Energy Solutions for an Energy-Secure SADC Region,” the five-day conference will bring together key stakeholders, including government representatives, energy sector experts, and policy makers. Discussions will center on energy access, renewable energy development, and energy efficiency initiatives in alignment with SADC’s regional strategies and global sustainable development goals.

The conference aims to foster regional collaboration by facilitating knowledge-sharing and investment opportunities within the energy sector. It will also highlight innovative approaches to expanding access to affordable and sustainable energy, a critical factor for economic growth and environmental sustainability in the region.

With energy security being a pressing issue for many SADC countries, the event is expected to generate actionable solutions that can drive policy development and investment in renewable energy infrastructure. The outcomes of the conference will contribute to shaping a more resilient and energy-secure future for the region.
