UNESCO Calls for Partners to Launch Film Residency for Young Female Filmmakers in Africa. UNESCO’s Botswana National Commission has announced a call for partners to design and organize a film residency program aimed at supporting young female filmmakers across Africa. This initiative, funded through an Additional Contribution from China to UNESCO, seeks to foster capacity building in the continent’s film industry by providing critical resources and mentorship opportunities.

The residency is a response to findings from UNESCO’s report, The African Film Industry: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities for Growth, which highlights the need for structured support and professional development for emerging filmmakers. The program follows in the footsteps of the successful UNESCO-Nara Film Residency, which previously provided young African women in film with valuable industry exposure.

This call is open exclusively to legally registered not-for-profit organizations and institutions operating within Africa. Interested entities are encouraged to submit proposals detailing their plans for designing and implementing the residency.

Applications for the partnership opportunity are open until April 6, with further details available through the Botswana National Commission for UNESCO. For inquiries, interested organizations can reach out via email at [email protected] or contact +395 8172.
