UNICEF Botswana Allocates P700,000 for Child-Centered Flood Response. UNICEF Botswana has committed P700,000 to support the Botswana government’s efforts in delivering child-centered interventions in response to recent flooding. The funding will be used to provide essential aid to affected communities, with a focus on protecting children and ensuring their well-being during the crisis.
UNICEF Representative Joan Matji announced the initiative, stating that the organization will collaborate with the Botswana Red Cross Society to distribute critical supplies. The response plan includes providing hygiene kits, safe drinking water, and Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) to prevent dehydration-related illnesses. Additionally, UNICEF will support the establishment of child safeguarding measures in evacuation centers and facilitate connections with health facilities for affected families.
“Our priority is to ensure that children and families impacted by the floods receive immediate support and access to basic services,” Matji said
The intervention comes as heavy rains have displaced families and disrupted access to essential resources in affected areas. By working with local partners, UNICEF aims to ensure a swift and coordinated response to minimize the impact of the disaster on vulnerable children.
This funding and support align with UNICEF’s broader mission to protect children in emergencies, ensuring they have access to clean water, healthcare, and safe environments even in times of crisis.
